Doh! I really should have seen 15, though it's rather loose. It would be fairer the other way round.

Not the toughest Saturday prize but very entertaining. Some great clues from a head-in-hands perspective (4d) to well constructed. I think my COD would be 21a but there plenty others similar. I did also like 6d which divided the room for a while.

The SW was definitely the toughest section and held me up for a while with 15a being my LOI. Thanks Matilda I needed a gentle ride today as a lot to do.

chrise - ‘strict’ because the diet is unmixed (unlike, e.g,, humans).

Thanks rogissimo. I think it's superfluous, though.

Isn’t that the definition of carnivore?

The definition I’ve seen is an animal that ‘primarily’ eats meat. ‘Strict’ arguably converts ‘primarily’ to ‘only’,’ I suppose.

In 14d I think the "strict" points to a certain type of parent, that proves which carnivore.

I like that, Danf.
Collins carries that meaning, though it’s quoted with “mother” rather than “parent”.

Well I am completely failing to parse 14d despite all the comments here - or perhaps I just have the wrong answer?? Is the second word a type of seafood?

Hi Neville,
Seafood is the definition. It parses 5 (strict carnivore), then 1 (right) in 4 (piece)
