Once again, can I please ask you to read the preamble and do not give away too much information or reveal the end game.

As it says in the preamble, the Listener is a unique puzzle and the Crossword Forum respects that and treats it as such.

It’s 5.45am, I’m up early but I didn't expect to be deleting errant posts even before I’d had my coffee😰

Finally got there. Can't decide if I like this or not. It's certainly a very nice piece of construction.

I remember feeling very similarly about Elgin's last puzzle about the Holy Grail, which had me barking up the wrong tree for a long time as well.

I was delighted when consideration of the puzzle's construction led me to its solution.

I have:
(1) completed the initial grid
(2) converted the 4 unclued entries into Lady Friends
(3) highlighted one of a different group of friends
(4) written the names of the other 3 friends below the grid
(5) highlighted their meeting place

Is that it, or am I supposed to do something else to the grid?

As happens occaisionally ... I spotted the grid highlighting - googled the friends (so all completed) - then took the time to see how cleverly they were derived ...
