Bill paid, but no go from here.

Possibly Hotel California. The last verse goes:

Last thing I remember, I was
Running for the door
I had to find the passage back
To the place I was before
"Relax," said the night man
"We are programmed to receive
You can check out any time you like
But you can never leave"

The other one is definitely Sellars with an a?

I agree. That’s what I have. It’s “Big Tips?” that is driving me crazy. I saw the suggestion in the other thread but I’m not totally convinced.

I think Sellars improvements may be Highland Clearances. They were a series of agricultural improvements in the 18th and 19th century in Scotland. Patrick Sellar was the factor of the Duke of Sutherland, and a prime architect of them. Not sure about the lack of apostrophe, mind, unless it refers to the whole family, as his forebears were farmers

Was that the well-known saying, hvonk, where I offered "it never rains but it pours" ? I'll have a rethink . . .

Yes. And I agree with your last suggestion. Again, that’s what I have.

For "Big tips?", how about "The ends justify the means"? But I am not convinced...

Quisling,

Much appreciated. Not sure I would ever have got near these. Have a couple CH/HC left to do but will have a battle with them. There are various references to one of them in some earlier posts but still none the wiser.

Regards
