Sorry, no. I am really struggling with this one, among others. I wondered if the five letter word might be bird related (e.g. hawks, crows) or to do with playing cards (hands, cards) but it has got me nowhere.

So glad I am not just being thick on this one (or at least I am not the only one in that boat!)

Harlequin Crows?

There is a variety of bridge called Harlequin Bridge = connection to bridge game
Harlequin Crow is another name for Pied Crow = connection to flying

But I'm unsure how this parses with ''no need for them to fly''

Sounds an interesting new lead - thanks, but not sure I can make it work as yet!
He had a reference to Horatius on the Bridge last year, but can't find a useful link there either!

Gandolf34, I do know the answer. It’s not Harlequin Crows. Do you want me to reveal it to everyone on here?

That's a strange thing to ask isn't it?

Quiztime, you didn’t have the manners to thank me for my answer, Childe Harold, to your question earlier in the thread. So no, I don’t think it is a strange question

Excellent thinking, tyke51, but, to quote Roy Walker, “it’s good but it’s not right”!
