Sorry. Hubby just worked it out!

Nice crossword. Sad to hear of another compiler gone.

Hi everybody

Nearly finished without looking at the forum. But I have two left and a couple I can't parse. Thanks for the hint about 7d.

I still have 18ac and 23d to get despite the hints above. Oh, just got 23d. Always wondered what it was and where it came from.

I can't parse 12ac, 27ac, 6d or 11d.

Otherwise, I found this unusually easy, despite not getting the "theme" until nearly the end. It does include some words in either the clues or the answers that I didn't know like 2d, 7d and 20ac. Sad to hear of the death of another compiler.

I have to go and make dinner now (my husband got his pacemaker on Monday, but has to take things easy, so I have to cook), but I'll be back later for some hints on 1ac.

Hi, roof. 18a is not a common word, but you just need an anagram of movie + 1 letter for tango, 2 for sex, and add a variable at the end.

12a is a four letter word for cunning inside a 5 letter word for hearing, with mum as in mother at the beginning.

6d: Julie shedding clothes means use the three internal letters of Julie

11d: Straight anagram, "dissolute" being the indicator.

Many thanks Darla

I have now got 18 ac, another word I didn't know and have explained my answers to 12ac, 6d and 11d. There were a lot of anagrams

So my FOI was 15ac my LOI was 18ac and my CODs were 9ac and 24ac.

Snowwhite - "Nice" gets used in clues from time to smuggle French elements in. At first reading many of us (me definitely) conclude "nice" = pleasant. But there's another "Nice", a geographical one. Thus "nice article" in a clue could hint to "LE" or "LA".

"Nancy" is occasionally used for the same purposes.

Completely stuck on 4d. Have guessed the first word, no idea on the second, and finding it hard to work out what the clue is about.

check the meaning of "evanesce" - the definition then becomes obvious!
