This looked impossible at first with so many words missing. But if you can solve a few, make an intelligent guess at the missing words, and then Google "poem" together those words, it will jump out. A very neat idea!

Yes, I agree buzzybee, a really nice change to have to piece together the clues after deducing the entry in many cases! Thanks to Qaos.

I agree. A lot of fun and very satisfying once a point of entry was established. 15d was my penny dropper. Thank you, Qaos.

Great fun, I had an almost full grid before the work revealed itself. The absence of spacing of the asterisks in 22a and 25 was a little disconcerting, but the combination of 25 and 15 finally got me me there

I liked this a lot. An extremely original idea, certainly one I haven’t seen before. I was grateful the words were in order, silly as it sounds

Qaos tells me (via Twitter) that credit for the concept goes to Mark Goodliffe who set a barred puzzle for Magpie using this same device

well goodness gracious me ... drove to SW France and still got it done before the end of the day UK time. Wordplay in 10 and 19 almost did for me, so convoluted was it. And actually, though I did a daily poetry programme for five years (1300 in all), not a poem I knew before. Enjoyable solve, though - my thanks also to the setter.
