I would say Roof it's one of those where you get stuck on one clue but when you get it, it yields solutions to two or three more. I got stuck in the NW but as soon as I got 1a, the rest followed quickly.

So I'm all done. But quite tough I found. I didn't like 12a. Thought it was a bit weak. I liked 5, 22 but COD would be 29a I think.

Yeah I thought it was quite tough too, would never have got 7D without the missing letter solver I think, although the parsing is clear (maybe I would have got it if "rocks" was replaced with the word it refers to), and I had 27A wrong (in letters 3 and 5).

Was a heck of a lot easier than last week's though (which took me 3 days!).

But Rocky I haven't got 1ac, I've just got 5,22d, but it means I did have 12ac and 27ac wrong, though I think I have an alternative for 12ac. But not so lucky with 27ac. I'm assuming the second word is obvious, which leaves me with the first word.

I'll have another go now I have some more letters, but no doubt I'll be back.

Got a few more, but here I am back with the last five and my brain hurts.
Please can I have a clue for 10ac: I have ?C?S???O? Is one of my letters wrong (it could be the S)
I haven't got 4D. I'm assuming the definition is style.
Despite the hint about 29ac, I haven't got it. I have ?I?????P? This means I haven't got 24d and 25d.

I thought last week's was very very tough, but this comes close to it. I'm not sure I've got 21ac right as my answer has no N in it and doesn't mean Spot or whizz.

Hints with any of the above would help unless I get a PDM in the next few minutes.

My husband is about to serve dinner.

Yup the S is wrong in 10A there.

4D is a style yeah.

29A is the most complicated one to parse today. 1 letter date inside gains + 1 letter soft inside soggy.

21A does not have an N in it, it is 4 letter "spots" without the N. Definition is "whizz" (e.g. as in whizzkid).

And the buffets in 29A is not the most obvious meaning of the word.

And if you need a further hint for 10A, it's always outstanding in its field ;)

Thanks PDS

I'm finally happy with my answer to 21ac. But I can't get the style in 4d.

I'm also mystified by 29ac. Could I have hints for 24d and 25d instead. It might help if I have more letters. Of course, I may the wrong letters in 27ac. I have ?S?A?E?A? as crossers. I haven't managed to parse my answer fully.

Hi roof
In 4d the Chanel is a person you have probably heard of.
24d "like Homer" is very loose - there are loads of other people who would alos fit the description (and no, they aren't all Greek!)
25d the Persian isn't a person
Your letters are correct for 27

4D is a style similar to baroque.

Your crossers are correct in 27A.

24D: 3 letter "save" (meaning "except") + 3 letter "coppers" reversed.

25D: The Persian is an animal.
