I'm having an odd experience with this - SW and NE complete; NW and SE empty!
Completely the opposite for us earlier.
Finished now but found this hard, though there were a few that had 'doh' moments.
FOI 17
LOI 24
Thought some of the defs were poor (eg 15) and surely 'in' should be 'of' in 4.
Can only partially parse a few (eg 11 and 6) but think that's down to my ignorance
but 9 has me beat apart from the def - any hints please.

read 9 backwards. the "by" is sneaky!

i liked the definition for 15 - last three words

Hi Pauly,

9a - 4 letter "call" + single letter "by" + single letter American" - all reversed/"returned" - definition is "feller"

11a - £ letter "first Hanoverian king" + 3 letter "first lady" - definition is "distress"

6d - "defector to Labour" is split 2,4 and goes around single letter "chapter" and 2 letter "on" - definition is "eliminating waste"

Thanks Brendan and Chrise - I was right about 11 - my ignorance - and 6 just being stupid.

All done now. Was on my LOI, but tablet needed charging. A couple of minutes later I worked it out, but only just it in.
I also got to a point where I only had SW and NE done, nice to look at, but a bit frustrating for a while. Made slow but steady progress after that.
I really enjoyed this, but found it tough in the NW and SE. So many good clues, I liked (19, 20) and (5, 22), but I’ll go with the superb 10 for my COD. FOI 23, LOI 26.
Unusual grid, I think only 17 has both across and down clues.
Many thanks to Picaroon.

My LOI was 8d, but only because I was trying to make it start with an S - a glance at the other three corner letters should explain why!

I like your lateral thinking Nodrog - wouldn't it be great if was the last in the set 😀
