There again, the first part of the definition of graphic in Chambers sits well with your second suggestion !!

Well, still limping along with this, solving a few more clues every so often. One of the first clues that I (sort of) solved on Friday was 26a. I had an answer that perfectly fit the definition and for which letters 1, (possibly) 2, and 4 fit the wordplay but I just couldn't shake out the full wordplay. I've just solved 19d which confirms my first letter for 26a. Could someone please put me out of my misery with a nudge towards the full wordplay for 26a? Thanks

26a - 4 letter "shop" minus single letter "had" once the extra letter has been added - definition is "God"

Please don't assume your original is wrong based on my parsing. I've only solved about half the clues so I'm not at all sure I've got a handle on this!

Could I have a hint only, please, for 25d.? I think I have all the checked letters.

Thanks for that. I can see it now. I had the correct 4 letter word but couldn't see why that letter should be removed. I can now (although it's a bit weak). I was also confusing two possibilities for the definition - a 2 letter word (letters 1 and 4) and a 3 letter word (letters 1, 2 and 4). Finding it hard to keep the escapees in my head!
