Brendan, I don’t recall Maskarade ever being interactive, because of the grid size, but I may be wrong. If I didn’t resolve your Listener queries on 1a and 10d, let me know

Hi Quisling,

I don't know why the Prize is suddenly pdf only, it was definitely interactive last night but today it suddenly isn't. I think you're right though about the previous Maskarade puzzles being only being pdf.

Thanks again for your help with those three Listener clues, I only referred to 14d because I was so frustrated with myself for thinking "goodness" was the usual 2 letter word and completely missing the obvious the exclamation of surprise meaning. But, regards the other 2 clues, I was nowhere near parsing them so there was no point in beating myself up over it:-)

PS It's still interactive on the phone app.

Maskarade has been interactive in the app (not the website version) for the last three or four, from memory, including this one. The last time it wasn’t was the one with little fishes (Dec ‘21 I think).

Thanks both, for setting me straight. It’s always good to be reminded what a dinosaur 🦕 I am for using pencil and paper!

Rocky, your letters are correct. Look for a subtractive anagram. The solution is a word for midshipmen, the grid entry should be fairly apparent once you have this

Hi Rocky,

12d - the non thematic answer is a subtractive anagram - definition is "midshipmen" - the thematic answer is 3, 7

Thanks Jono and Brendan. So flipping obvious. I won't have this cracked much before 10 tonight I don't think so I will likely be back.

Thanks Rocky.

Sorry Jono, because the interactive has vanished I had to resolve the clue and took so long that by the time I posted I ended up just repeating everything you'd already said!
