Nearly there (with a bit of help from the forum - thanks all!). I'm a bit late, so hoping someone's still around to give me hints for my last two: 28a and 20d. I have a word that could fit 20d, with the first word as the definition, but can't parse it. And I see from the forum posts that 28a is clever misdirection, but I haven't had a 15d for that yet!

For 20d there's a clue in the typeface.
28 is based around football clubs. The dressing is horticutural!

I think, when I finally got it, 28ac is my favourite clue. I did laugh when I got it.

I now realise I must have 8d wrong if my first letter is wrong. I have finished apart from that top right corner. I may need to accept that is the best I can do this week.

Off to Budleigh again shortly.

Thanks loads, chrise - got them now. I'd ignored the typeface in 20d, assuming it was an error - doh! And yes, 28 is very clever. I think my COD remains 27, though, with 22 a close second.

Hi Chris,

'Back in the day' my older brother bought a second-hand Vox AC30 amplifier, and on it was written "property of Neil Innes" who, I'm sure you know, is from the aforementioned BDDB - small world:-)

Hi Brendan
I played a few games of cricket with Martin Ash, who was in the original line-up as Sam Spoons!

He was also the wizard in the kids TV show "Puddle Lane" - I remember the episode featuring Fish (ex-Marillion singer) as well. RIP Neil.

Wasn't as weird as the Sooty Show episode featuring Nicko McBrain (drummer from Iron Maiden) though!

That's great Chris,

I've just looked him up on Google and it says he rejoined the band and went on a reunion tour along with Stephen Fry, Ade Edmondson and Phil Jupitus:-)
