And on another topic, there's a letter in the Daily Telegraph today about not being able to get an all-day breakfast after 11am.

I wonder whether one of you lot wrote it. ;-)

It was suggested by Simplesimon the other day that
I enquire if the market café serves Camp Coffee. So I called in this morning and asked Cassie about it.
“Never heard of it”, she said, “Do you mean camp in an affected sort of way?”
“I think it is the people who drink these fancy coffees that are affected, rather than the coffee itself”, I replied.
“I suppose it could be the sort of coffee that cowboys drink around the camp fire” she suggested. “Anyway, I‘ve got the beans.”
“What, you’ve got Camp Coffee beans”, I said excitedly.
“No, I’ve got baked beans, that’s what cowboys eat isn’t it?

JigJag - brilliant! We weren’t joking about Camp Coffee by the way -Google it - it has a Wikipedia entry and describes the bottle exactly as we remember it.
Regards to the lovely Cassie - don’t forget to check the lovely Samantha out too.

Thanks, glad you liked the report. I will be in town a few times before Christmas and will visit the market cafe. I forgot to ask Cassie about Samantha but she does sound wonderful.

Thanks. I couldn't find the letter in my edition of the Telegraph today, but I would be interested to read it. I didn't write it, but it is interesting that somebody else is having trouble with breakfasts.

Thanks. I am very irritated by the BBC's constant mispronunciation of Kiev as "Keev". It has always been 2 syllables in English. We dont say Wien or Moskva, as locals do. We have even had the nonsensical "Chicken Keev" on Masterchef, but James Martin got it right on Saturday.

Jigjag, I thought it was time the lovely Cassie was given further
exposure to the wider public. Accordingly, she (and you) are duly part of a clue generated for Clueless 609. 🤔😳

Jigjag, this was the letter in Monday's DT:

SIR – Marion Hansford’s letter (December 7) on teacakes not being served after 11am at Marks and Spencer reminded me of driving to Scotland from London some years ago.

After many hours at the wheel, the prospect of an all-day breakfast at a service station in the Borders was very tempting. “Sorry, sir,” was the depressing reply when I tried to order one, “we only serve the all-day breakfast up to 11 o’clock.”

It took very little ingenuity, however, to order the individual components and assemble them on one plate. Problem solved.

That's very kind of you. What a lovely clue, good luck with it.

Orson
Thanks for posting the letter. I am glad the professor solved the problem as I did.

I called in at the market café this morning, hoping for the usual friendly greeting, but I was to be disappointed.
“I’m surprised at you showing your face, after winding me up the other day”, said Cassie. “I suppose you know Camp Coffee is syrup. A bloke called Simon told me about it yesterday.”
“Syrup?” I replied.
“A mixture of water and sucrose, formula C12 H22 O11” she said.
“I’m amazed at your knowledge, are you a chemist?”
“No, but I have worked in Boots. You pick up a lot of science there. Anyway, this syrup is flavoured with coffee and chickpea essence, Simon said.”
“I think you might have mis-heard” I advised her. I think I know what she means, but it seems an unlikely ingredient.
