I liked the owless clue and look forward to future clues on woodpeckress and blackbirdess. Thanks for the navy info.

I dont mind the odd "joke" clue. We had "assess" for female donkey some time ago.

Yes confusing lingo. When they mentioned EO, I thought it was executive officer, as it is in some places, but it turned out to be Engineering Officer. Then they mentioned XO and that puzzled me. It seems so unrealistic but enjoyable.

I like your joke but I thought it actually was called Virgil. I must have misread it.

Grunger, I do like the joke in "assess." Still not a fan of "owless" though.

Nice to see a naval reference in the Times crossword today.

I read the article in the Times which reflected the comments by Paul's brother. Apparently the sub is too large so that the actors can face each other. I would prefer it if they could not face each other.

Yes the 3rd episode of Vigil was desperately dull, and your suggestion might improve it

In the Times Cryptic today (28079): 4 o'clock = ESE. Well, no not actually. Too loose for my liking.

Mathprofrockstar, I would never have got tha. Well, I might have completed the word from crossing letters, but the '4 'clock, ESE' is totally new to me - and I don't like it much.

I think 3.45 might be `ESE` ... not 🕓
Setter had a nice idea which doesn`t quite work!

Tyke51, I agree that it was a good idea, and your fix is perfect.

Yes I think the 15 min difference is too much. I would be happy with "SE by E" for 4 o'clock, althought it is still 7.5 mins out.

I was not happy with the "mews, muse" clue earlier in the week, but I suppose it works for some people.

Annoying re Test, I was going for 2 days.
