Thanks, mathprof. My original guess for 12 was correct, though I doubted it and wound up preferring something different! Doubly funny because I got the other similar (and possibly obscure) geographical reference (clue # redacted to avoid spoiler).

One last niggle, I have the answer to 22, but the only reference to the first part I can think of is Scottish, which clearly must be wrong. Hint appreciated. (Chris, for a while I thought it might have been your WPR word from last weekend, but not to be)

Stuck on top right corner, 5D, 6D and 8/10A. Hints would be welcomed especially on 8/10.
