I saw that too Mackania. Especially given 16,4 and the last word of 9 and bits of 23 and 3, but I suspect it’s all just a happy coincidence.
I’m not entirely convinced the enumeration in 10,17 is part of the clue, but then again...

first 5 letters are the woman, next 4 "mean" as an adjective, missing first letter, last 4 "eats" as a noun

Unusually for me, I seemed to be on Paul's wavelength this week. Just one left, which seems to have caused difficulties for many - 22/5:
I have all the letters in, but still can't get it. Any subtle hints would be much appreciated.

docrum, crossers are correct, defn is "pretender", historical sense.

it is built up 4,2,3,4. the last 4 is a dialect word for stream that you might not be familiar with

It took me ages to see the use of (9) in 10,17 even after reading the previous posts. I agree that it's a piece of genius.
