I have most of the message from the down clues and the new order but is there a misprinted extra letter in 9d?

I think it's the S from Say .......then the clue would imply an "A" (ay) inside the tin giving the required tribute??
S seems to work in my 2 sentences from the extra letters....

Thanks kirky, I have S as extra letter too but doesn't that give I (ay) in CAN? And the extra S doesn't seem to tie in with the message but does with the re-ordered message!

Muraría, the start of the the first message should begin (8,2), rather than (4,5), as should become clear when you’ve completed the highlighting

Jogamel, in 5d the extra letter begins the third word. That should help you parse it

I don't quite understand part of the last sentence:

Does the pronoun refer to the supporter or to 6?

Also, a minor quibble, shouldn't it be 16 cells rather than 16 letters for the highlighting ?
