Two left - 1A and 3D - which are proving difficult. I have L.B... for 1A and can see only one solution meaning frilly but can’t see the parsing. For 3D I have ..n.I.l. and am completely clueless: is the definition lack?

Thanks, Katnw. You prompted me to check 2D and found that my initial G had changed to B! I hope that might help 1A.

3d is a "number of churchgoers", though "for" would be more accurate than "of".

Hi all - I found this very hard but enjoyable. I have finished the puzzle but am unable to parse 24a. “Fine soldiers knocking on walls (6).” There is only one word that fits but can’t parse it for the life of me. A hint would be greatly appreciated.

It's an inclusion ("walls"). Soldiers inside "knocking on".

Thanks! Going t it now. I’m an American and have never heard that meaning of “knocking on.” Certainly learn something new every week doing the Prize puzzle and visiting this site.
