Hello! Is it supposed to be obvious how to draw the closed curve? I know it’s general shape (Got that from the letters in the circled cells), but it seems like you could start anywhere and still come up with the same shape just oriented in a few different directions.

The curve has to trace "part of a film quotation " which determines exactly where it must go.

What a beast of a crossword! So much complexity at every stage but throughly enjoyable. Nice one hawk!

I’m trying to complete the initial stage, but have 2 left to solve 32a & 33d. Any enlightenment would be much appreciated.

32A - three letter word for blue as in depressed; abbr. for folio and for edition; defn 'ran'; second words is thematic.

33D - defn Spenserian - anag. of 'to' and 'sel' - last word is thematic

Thank you hw7. 32a is obvious now but I would never have worked 33d out. I have a completed grid now so onto the next stage. I have the answer for 17d but don’t understand the parsing?

That’s cos it’s utterly bonkers! Definition is lay (check chambers). Word for peerage (almost) reversed after a Scottish word for grandchildren
