Hmmm, all done but I feel vaguely disappointed with the 'selection'. All a bit too metaphorical for me and I think a bit unfair choosing an obscure word not found in Chambers. Qat found it for me, if that helps anyone else.

I was going along nicely if slowly but I’m starting to feel out of my depth with this puzzle. I must have some incorrect answers or else my positioning is wrong. Surely 24a has C as it’s third letter? But the 2nd of 29 must be N. I have R as the third letter of 38a but cannot find any word going CN??R???
37d I cannot parse - having spent time with S & G as letters 2 & 4, which gave me a possible Colonial language, I’ve eventually opted for R & T and just Talk.

Hmm. All done, grid filled, curve drawn (rather fittingly today), messages complete and the final word worked out.
However, I don't think I've finished a puzzle with so much unparsed before ie 14a, 22a, 27a, 46a. Strangely, no problems with the down clues.

PS The solver on this site has the 'random word' as it is here. If you work out the middle letter of the 5 and put just that in I expected to get pages and pages, but no. I had a shrewd idea what I was looking for and lo!

Ricky, the 2nd of 29 isn't n.

37d. If enough committee members are present for a vote, the meeting *******. Remove question and the result is the misspelled 4 letter word.

The help from granama1 has got me through apart from one problem. I’m not sure of the two unchecked letters in 30a - suspect L or R and then A or I or E.

"marshalled" is an anagram indicator for the preceding word, providing the last 5 letters of 30a

6d and 22ac are still baffling me, as is the solution to the cryptic clue message.

I think I have the theme, but can't see the 29 cell path, even though I know its shape.
