Zip!! Of course!! Thank you. I’d so closely linked zip to the answer I failed to see it. I saw the two letters and did think of them as that abbreviation as well, but still the penny didn’t drop. I have the lot now, even the “new”. Thank you.

Hi Richard,

The "zip" and where it's situated in the clue is a classic bit of misdirection - glad you got it all sorted:-)

After 10 or so years of lurking here and marvelling at some of the convoluted minds present, I have bitten the bullet and subscribed. Like all new friends, I want something. A hint to the last down clue - fairy queen one ?e?I. Many thanks and woot.

Hi Wootboy, and welcome!
You’re looking for a two letter Greek letter outside a very common two letter abbreviation for the Queen which will yield you a fairy.

That is what I had arrived at but it is quite obscure (and I am quite into my mythology). I was just wondering if there was a literary one I didn't know. Along the lines of Titania. Much as gracias, Jono.

19d is an anagram of a Shakespearean character.
26a rather strangely the definition is a ‘cash handling company’. However, the meaning is also connected to the theme and related to 1a. It’s three letters for convenience (in a lavatorial sense) and the first of secures, containing single letters for money and one.
