I still can’t parse 3d. Got the bottom 5 letters I think (10 wearing new smalls), “front of underwear” could give me either the first letter or the first two letters, but I still have at least two letters unaccounted for in the parsing. The only spare word I can see is “new”, because the 10 is just wearing smalls at the bottom, if you count the letters either side of it. Hope that makes sense.

Hi richard
"zip" meaning "nothing", or ??

My reading, eventually, was either of two (!) 2 letter abbreviations for “zip” in the sense of “not much at all”.

For 5d I think the new is there to denote N, and only one letter comes from “front of underwear”.
I like the two letter “zip”, thanks for the explanation blimeyoreilly

If you google those two words together, you’ll find them in a list of equally obscure, but equally wonderful words which may prove useful, you never know ;)

Hi Jono,

That is a great list - "cacafuego" and "mythomane", both brilliant. I just recently saw the film "Bone Tomahawk" so had come across "Troglodyte" before.

I agree. Though the container within a container makes it a bit convoluted to figure out!

Yes, 11a is Dahlesque indeed richardk! Brings to mind the many readings of the BFG in our house when my kid was little.

Jono, yes I am interested to find out about the “grid library” thank you! Who knew?!

Looking for hints for 20a please.
