It's a Paul puzzle, so my FOI and LOI was 9a.

For some reason, I just can't get started on his puzzles. Even the clues here about 12a haven't helped - I can find a suitable answer "starts with A and ends with D" by the director, but the bit about trailer makes no sense to me at all.

I think my main problem is his use of (to me) obscure words that give no traction to get started.

I'll wait for Everyman and the Monday puzzle now :-)

Hi Smot,
12a breaks down as A plus a 4 letter word for film (in a non-movie sense) plus 2 letters for trailer (in the sense of a promo)

Jono I can see 11.

4 in the grid and 7 in the clues ( one of which the great man co-produced).

JustSolve,
Ah that’s interesting. I have 4 in the grid, 2 of which are fodder and 5 in the clues. I’ll take another look. Thanks!

I know that this is slightly off topic but I thought some of you out there may find this interesting. Having finished (eventually) today's prize I did a random pick from the Grauniad back catalogue and fell upon a Brendan from 26 Feb 2011. Much to my amazement there were several references to the same person who featured in today's puzzle! Synchronicity or what?

Finished a tricky but enjoyable puzzle, but I can't parse 19ac. I worked out the solution by the definition and the crossing letters.
Any clues?

composte anagram - last letter of one word, then another, then the numbers as words (I think - I haven't actually written it out!)
