Still three gaps in the NW corner. I have a word that goes in normally for 13 ac, meaning protective structure, but I have idea where the 7 weeks fits in.

Hi Dylan'

4 letter word for "box" (abbr. of a 10 letter word) around 4 letter word for "seven weeks"

Thanks, Brendan for 33a. I even think that def. of 'narrow-minded' has come up elsewhere recently.

Thanks, Mattrom. I had not looked in Chambers, but when I do it is staring you in the face.

I suspect a lot of people will go for the type of tree and then convince themselves that EL can be 'on west facing'

Thanks also from me Tatters. It looks as though the paper paper won't be reaching North Cornwall today.

...and done.

Agree with the previous suggestion that it’s a familiar Schadenfreude construction.

Long period staring at the deep SE and SW before discovering the source material which rapidly gave 35A and 28D/36A. Who knew so many letters would fit into a little cell - but hey! Replacements!

Thanks JH; RIP

Finally stumbled across the finishing line. Having the wrong version of the source really caused me some serious problems with 3 and 8 which consequently meant my LOI's were 27 and 30 down. I was convinced I had the right answers (which I had), but couldn't make any sense of the connection - once again, thanks to wikipedia, I got there. Some reasonably solvable clues bespattered with some extremely devious ones - I found this extremely enjoyable.

May I butt in on 33 across? I have a six letter (unusual) word for "tree" and it doesn't end with L. I have a reversed two letter definition of "on" for the final two. Look at the verbs for "tree" in the BRB.
