Welcome to Clueless, our informal weekly clue setting competition. The idea is to compose a cryptic clue to a given word or phrase.
Multiple entries may be submitted and new competitors are particularly welcome.

The winner of this week's competition will set the word to be clued and judge the entries for next week.

The judge’s decision is final and reasons may or may not be given. It is customary for the judge to donate a virtual prize to the winner.

Clues should be submitted by 6:00 pm (UK time) on Wednesday, Aug 26th.
Prizegiving will be shortly afterwards.

This week's challenge is a very topical word for those in the south of the US:

HURRICANE (9)

Have fun, and please explain your clue if it is especially devious.

Laura, maybe, but not Marco, held by Arthur, Ric an' Edgar.

This could have an incredibly short shelf life if Marco gets upgraded to a hurricane again, but I couldn't resist.
