Well done, Aristo, and thanks for the like and the hosting, jafo.

Nostalgic clip with the Hurricane not as quick as I expected, though speeding up considerably for the final six-shot colour clearance. We've been spoilt by Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Such a difficult game. I once spent a rainy morning in solitary practice on a full size table during a golf holiday. Thought I could get the angles worked out. No improvement whatsoever.

Congrats to Aristophanes. Very clever.

I’ve never seen snooker before, and I was fascinated by the man in the white gloves. Why was Alex Higgins called Hurricane though?

A nice surprise! Thanks so much, jafo. A nifty clip too- quite the nail-biter, even though one knows he'll pull it off. I enjoyed reading all of the clues and look forward to next week's contest.

@mathprof

Without looking up wikipedia I would imagine the main reason Alex got his name was the speed of his play. This was during a time when most of his contemporaries were hardened professionals that would wear you down by attrition. Matches that nowadays would last a few hours would during that time become marathon epics running on forever. It was in a large part due to the Hurricane that snooker gained the popularity that it did during its heyday in the eighties.

Alex though was also a wild man by nature so that no doubt had some influence. I had a work colleague that ran into Alex in Bangkok when we used to use it as a leave centre. He was a real party animal, going on days' long drug and alcohol fuelled binges, leaving everyone and everything reeling in his wake. A true character.
