1 First 5 letters are (loosely) the "point".

I struggled with this and still haven't got 4a or 25a.

Brendan for 2d, the game is plural, the clue wants you to say a couple of the answers to get the game.

Hi everyone

I come late to the forum as usual. Gosh it is hot even though I don't live in the south east.

My FOI was 14ac, but I haven't got 23,24 yet. I still haven't got the long one yet, or 5d. I'm hoping I have 4ac correct and I looked up 25 ac in the dictionary.
I've spent the last week looking at cars after our power steering went in our C3 Picassa. Despite swearing never to get another Citroen, we have settled on the relacement Citroen Aircross as it ticks all the boxes for us. And they are giving us some money for our non runner.
Back to the xword.
Can I have a hint for 18ac and 5d please.
I have for 18ac ?A? ?? ??A?Y
For 5d I only have "a" for the first letter.

Hi roof
Your letters are right for 18a. It's an anagram. The definition is a bit whimsical.
5d - where do cavities often appear? Not a great clue, as far as I can see, though.

Sorry, I forgot to mention why I was going on about Citroens. It was because of the 10,16 clue, which I though disparaged them.

I think it refers to the Deux Chevaux, roof!

I thought it might. Thanks for your hint for 18ac. I finally got it, but what a horrid clue. I'll keep working at the others. I still haven't got the long one. It would help if knew the last word.

Can anyone help me with the parsing of 8d please? Have the solution (I think) but staring at it for 15 minutes only justifies a synonym of the first word in the clue. Thanks

The first two letters are the author reversed. Then reverse the first two letters for the period towards (though not exactly) the end of the Georgian period.
