You're welcome Lucy.

I really enjoyed this crossword. It was fun and the most entertaining prize one from the Guardian for absolutely ages.

Like Brendan I didn't notice the special instructions straight away. Maybe they should be in a larger print!

There are plenty of hints for 17/20 if you scroll back.
Another hint. the pianist is Chinese.

23/8 is themed. Court is in the romantic sense.

Both themed.

First one is two Yankees and One Famous pianist. Think Nato.

Can't quite fully parse the 23/8D but can get the first 9 letters ok.

7 letter word meaning disgrace think Profumo movie missing 2nd letter.

Then 3 letter word meaning to court. Not sure where the D comes from though

Thanks for help. I'd assumed and googled Chinese pianists but still hadn't got it, probably because I had never heard of the themed words and also because I was trying to remove yankees from pianists rather than add them. Done now!

One patient needing a bath? Someone's got to do it!
_ I _ T_ / _ U _
Any hints?

Your U is wrong. The second word is someone famous for his patience!

Hi Docrum,

"one patient" is someone from the bible who was famous for his patience - the first word is what "someone needing a bath" might be.

the middle letter of the second word is 'O'.

definition is part of a phrase that ends with "........but someone's got to do it"
