Sunray, did you understand my reply at 22? That told you how to enter the acrosses but you said you already had the word.

I'm confused (again!)

Firstly, is 1a entered reading left to right and beginning in cell 1 of row 1 and column 1?

Does 2a carry straight on from 1a - ie starting in cells 10 and 11 of row 1 and then cells 1 to 5 in row 2? Only I have 2 of the first 3 down answers and it doesn't match up, if that's the case (assuming I have 3d correct - is it an anagram of "snowbound" minus "bod"?)

For 1a and "snowbound" you are correct, brendan.

For entering the across answers, think how you might plough a field, what path you would trace. The across answers follow on from each other but not always continuously. Sometimes a down answer interrupts.

Thanks Orson.

So for 2a does it start in cells 10 and 11 of row 1 and then continue in cell 12 then 11 then 10 etc in row 2? Also, is it entered reading L to R or R to L? Only I have an 'O' in cell 2 of row 2 so don't see how 2a could fit across that.

It starts in cells 11 and 12 then winds round R to L in cells 12, 11, 10... to 8 respectively in row 2. Even rows are R to L, odd rows L to R. That's what I meant by boustrophedon. Down answers sometimes separate across answers.

Maybe I've revealed too much but this is a tough one and it is worth persevering.

A taxing puzzle, as is usually the case with Ifor. I liked the title too.

Thanks everyone. Finished at last and very enjoyable end game. But how did you know what the logical order was? I could only do it because I found the long b word on here. How did you know what it was?

Orson, thanks.
I was trying to fit 2a in row 2 but then realized how it had to be entered.
I have done a little more than half.
I am struggling to solve a few in the bottom half.
