fgsltw - sorry, it's 8 not 7 you're unsure of -
the water is the usual childish 'p' word (3 letters) reversed, followed by what flowers are when they bloom (with an 'l' added to the former).

Hello drxx

I'm afraid I still need help with 6d - nothing I try following your suggestion seems to work.

On a different point, is the solution to 18ac the weapon that needs to be moved?

Dylan - it's a rather more unconventional weapon!

Think nativity priests for 6d

If 9D is empty then my remaining answer for 9A isn't a word. And if the 11-letter down at rhs is empty then 39A isn't a word (unless the final letter of the D remains). As so often the clever end-game isn't as straightforward as the setter hopes. Am I right in thinking that the people in the top row have chewed the weapon into bits? And as for fitting in her forename I'm completely stuck. I know the name, but I can't see where it goes. (Otherwise I think it's brilliant, although the title eludes me.)

No, it isn't empty in that respect, cockie (hence the quotes - 'empty').

As for the title, the surname, perhaps?
