All my shaded elements are vertical, two of four letters.

I cannot see any additional thematic words going across, let alone of 9 and 6 letters as agreed below

What am I missing?.

Is 35a TUSHES? Not seeing the sense of it apart from the Pooh reference. Also 1a must end in R because of a feature though SS makes more sense for steamer

Once again I'm struggling. I completed the grid remarkably quickly by my standards and found the symmetrical features. However I only have 9 surplus words: in 14a, 34a, 35a, 8d, 14d,19d, 21d, 26d, and 31d. Are these correct and where is the missing one?

The six other features have me baffled. Are we to look for words that appear in the poem (for example a three letter word in the second from bottom line) or synonyms of words that appear in the poem? I'm not sure I understand collinearly in this context.

Any help welcomed.
