This puzzle had a major déjà vu factor.
I was sure I had done this before, because of the Hex answers, but I couldn't find it in my archives.
Anybody remember a similar one?

I do remember a similar format, Syzygy, although the clues themselves weren't familiar.

Finished at long last. Never heard of 18! Thank you all for your help. I liked 44.

I certainly remember one built the same way a few years ago, but without unclued hexagons. I can't remember any of the words except Purina, an animal food. Mr A helped me with that, so perhaps this will jog his memory.

Hi again Sunray and all.
I haven’t finished still, I have three down the right, 18, 30 and 42. Any tips welcome. ‘Fashion’ seems perfect for 42, - adapt to make suitable for Carnaby St, - but doesn’t work!
Also US folk, why is i acceptable for one dollar in 43?!

Hi Lumen,
18 is an item of Mexican clothing
30 is a homophone
42 is a bit of a pun. Think rockers and...

It may help to know that 12 is entered clockwise.

Hi Lumen

18 took me ages to get. It's an unusual word for dry round "a" and the usual abbreviation for soft. I had to look it up
30 is one of those when you get it you groan. Think what goes with a suit and then what goes on that.
Can't remember about 42!

Hi lumen,

This is the first time I have seen $1 used for I. I have been doing Harpers for years and never encountered it.

42. I have no idea what Carnaby Street is famous for.
But Google tells me alterations may be apart of the businesses there.

Think of current Indian PM. He is up for re-election. Polls say he will win.

Forgot 30.

Read out suggests homonym.
The answer when spoken suggests a phrase 4,2.
Means enter into a computer.
