Thanks drxx, I didn't know that it could mean that.

drxx, thanks for that. I'm still baffled about to enter any answers, so the Hot film... answer should, I presume, go at 6dn - but that only has four spaces. Please advise!

Generally, I'm struggling mightily. I have See a grill...., as a 10 letter word, but suspect it should go down the right hand column- which has 12 spaces. What is going on?

Dylan - r/h column is correct - first 8 letters as normal from the top.

Hot film? 5dn, not 6 (that's a statue!)

Thanks, s_pugh. I'm still pondering how it goes as 5dn, but meanwhile I have another query. I have a perfectly good answer for Weeping about...., but it's two words. Is there actually a good one word answer?

I think dylan's mention of 6 is justified s_pugh - it is the 6th down answer after all (perhaps 5 and a half rather than 5 would be helpful?).

'weeping about' has a 2 word phrase in the wordplay - remove the 'a' and add N.

Thanks, drxx, but the word that this gives me doesn't specifically refer to weeping. Does that matter?

Also, I'm expecting this to be the final across entry, given what others have said about 1dn. It seems to clash with Writer's medium...?

thanks, as always

'Weeping...' is part of the wordplay - the definition is 'trainees' and you have a similar length problem to the one you've spotted in the last column).
The R ties in ok with the 'writer's medium' - after that you'll have to be careful.

I solved all the clues - assuming the def to the 'some jerk' clue is 'where pot is hot' but can't sort out the SE corner, even after sleeping on it. To be honest, having just discovered that my car has been written off by an uninsured driver, I'm not in the mood for something that seems this tedious. So, bye for now, see you next week.
