With the amount of spam postings sometimes several in a few minutes I do think moderators would help in keeping the site clearer of the annoying posts.

Escher, it is not just a matter of a moderator zapping the foreign spam, the spammers will have to be banned at the same time, and only Norah and Ash have access to that process.

I understand that but it does seem something needs to be done but hopefully Norah and Ash have the matter in hand and may not wish to discuss possible solutions on an open forum.

I have read this thread with interest. I am sorry you find the spam annoying and I can assure one and all that I do my best to keep deleting the rubbish as quickly as possible. I have a busy morning today but I will keep checking in as often as I can.

It is a free Forum so obviously we don’t have a lot of staff monitoring the posts, as was mentioned it is mostly just Ash and myself, so please bear with us if the spam lingers longer than you would wish. Unfortunately life gets in the way.

It is not feasible to use Moderators but thank you all for volunteering, deleting the spam might be easy but it’s the banning that could be complicated.

Ash does have a trick up his sleeve, I will have a word with him about it.

I wouldn't mind quite so much if the reporting proceedure wasn't so clunky. Why, when I'm already logged in, do I have to type in my email address and and name to report spam? Seems entirely unnecessary and makes me inclined not to bother.

Also, most fora that I've had anything to do with the running of have had the capability of giving limited admin rights to selected members to help out with this kind of thing.

Hi, Norah!
Thank you , Norah, for responding to queries about the Spam.
But I shouldn't worry about it too much.
It is only a minute's job for one of us to report the Spam.
And I am sure we are all quite capable of working around it, until you yourselves can deal with it and delete it / ban the spammers etc., as soon as is convenient for you.
We all know you and Ash do your best - and that should prove sufficient without the necessity of additional Moderators.
Have a Happy (Care-Free) Easter!

Hi Timdownieuk,

You don't have to type your email address and name to report spams
- or at least not everytime! The system is marvelous in that it has a
memory - it is linked to your computer, obviously, and all you do
is type the first letters/number and the system will recognize you and
you just click on the address and the name suggested.

It does not take long, and you then play your part in keeping our
forum clean!
