The best I can do for a title is a 4-2 film, otherwise unrelated to the theme, which might describe the iconic scene, the row between the names that it allegedly caused, and the original puzzle title.

Like so often, the endplay isn't particularly clear. I have two names, clearly correct, a (LH) time span of relevance and a RH time span which doesn't seem connected to either name. The "best friend" and his playing area connection is interesting, but is it relevant. I can get nowhere with the "triply significant" alternative title either. And I have no idea what the (8-letter) "correct time span is". As has been pointed out, the RH one would be the right length. But why? Grrr!

Ah! And here's me seeing that period of time as gestation-relevant. Thanks.

Sorry to keep coming back - no, honest! - but I'm curious about the cryptic references here to the triply-relevant 6-letter title. Throck suggests a 4-2, and if it's the explosive one I'm thinking of, then it may well be right. But banana (may I call you that?) seems to be suggesting that the D-word has some significance. It has been suggested elsewhere that there is a tendency for setters to play "Guess what I'm thinking", and this one seems perilously close. I've identified the 22 letters without needing to appreciate this particular step, which surely renders it otiose. Oh! maybe otiose is what I'm looking for ...

I know I've come late to this party, but I wonder if anyone could parse 9d for me. Slaves to history exposed, Scots later. Sn? And the discarded letter is Y
