Thanks malone.
You are right. I was thinking of the wrong song.
The other parodied song is originally from the same Fab group.
LSD may be involved.
The unclued in the sixth row follows the word in the last row.

I am just guessing.

Is the other a parody or just a regular song?

Also is 9a an Irish word?

Sunray, glad you're no longer on the wrong track(!).
As the preamble says, the two unclued entries are from a parody.

Thanks.
I get that the first song is a parody with two words (9,4),
The preamble says "two pairs appear in another song".
My question was: is "another song" a parody too?

I have all of the grid including 9a now done. A word I have never heard.

The only thing remaining are the two unclued (7 letter one in tenth row, and the four letter down word).

Any hint on the name or the song? Like where does the name appear?

Hints appreciated.

Sunray, I don't know where you get (9,4) from. The first song is a parody of a nursery rhyme. The second song is just a pop song, no parody.

I'm still stuck on how to obey the decoded message.

Orson, I'm glad you popped in - I didn't understand where Sunray's 9, 4 was coming from and I was getting tangled up in all the mention of parodies! I haven't got anywhere near decoding the message as I have many of the missing letters still to track down.

Hi Orson,

My big oops. It should have read 9,5.
9 coming from the last row and 5 coming from sixth row.
Googling parody with 9 letter word , I found this.

Those (9,5) passing by
L in the s -- with d!

Unfortunately I missed that those two words appear in both the original and parody songs. And so I thought they belong to the parody song required by the preamble.

I re -read the lyrics of the pop song and found four words that fit.

I will now find the nursery rhyme parody.

Sorry if I confused malone and you but I was on the wrong track and it took time to get out of it.

I see a 4-letter name in the 9 letter unclued. Am I close?

Thanks to both of you for help.

The name doesn't appear in the grid, sunray, but if you have the pop song, you have the name.

I feel sure I know what the "best friend" is and it is relevant to the two songs, but finding anything like it in the grid is frustrating me.

Glad you got back to us, Sunray - I'm afraid I was totally confused earlier and couldn't work out how to help you untangle it! I don't think the name appears in the grid, I think it's just the name you mentioned (abbreviated) in your last post.

Again, my apologies.
What I thought was the a parody song was not!
I too have quite a few extra letters to find.
