Enjoyed this, took a while to get the correct theme (was sure it was Picasso) and fairly confident I've got the right answers but if I have 25dn right it doesn't work properly. The theme part comes first and does not surround as the others do. Still, much better than some.

Hi teenieleek, I imagine your 25d is correct as I don't see an alternative assuming your crossers are correct. I get it complying with the other thematics but I'm not finding it easy to give a hint that won't spoil it for others at this early stage.

Teenieleek, my 25 D works exactly the same as the others. The theme part does surround the clued part.

I have solved every clue and got the name of the work and know the artist's name but can't see how the artist's name complies with the instructions.

It does blignop, preamble says use part of title.

I've worked out 25now. I had the first five letters as the b??? but in fact it's the first three and last. Both are b???s.

Blignop, the artist's name is/has been treated as indicated by PART OF THE TITLE . The other entries are entered as 'indicated by the title', ie the whole thing.

Teenieleek, sorry - I didn't see that you'd already answered Blignop.

Thanks both, and I can see that the first two words of the title may work but can't seem to fit it with the "two clued lights, symmetrically opposite each other" and presumably the first name is the fuller, less ordinary version.

I think you might be on the wrong track(!), blignop. It's definitely the usual name we need. Think of how many letters you'll need for that, it'll cut down the number of answers you'll need to look at.

Hi Malone.
I'm way out of my crease and completely stumped by this specie.
Can you give me a hint or two and perhaps the answer to 1a so that I can get started.
