thanks Syzy, not as hard as it looks from reading the preamble. took a while for the theme to emerge. i will have to re-read the clues to pick a favorite (sic).

Thanks for posting, Syzygy, enjoyed. It looked impenetrable at first then fell into place. I didn't get the theme until everything else was complete.

Thanks, syzzie. Looked impossible, turned out to be a breeze- but brilliant construction and the usual wonderful clues. Favourites [sic]: sA and cD.

Thanks again syzygy, enjoyable as ever. Nice construction, new to me. As usual quite a few dillions with my favourites being (m) across, (b) & (c)* down.

You are all welcome.

It wasn't as hard as it looked, but I thought the unclued were somewhat arbitrary.
WTF are cashiers' socks ?? (last unclued after rD) Google wasn't very helpful.

I was quite amused by the use of [sic]. I'm Canadian, so "favourites" it is.
@Trevor Those should be square brackets

(ever the pedant, eh?).

@Aristo & Ginge
sA was one I didn't care for at all. WES plural as "my team" !? Maybe I'm missing something.
Perhaps it could have been phrased differently:
Swimmers' lanes? My team takes (has) precedence.

The other was iA, but now I see it is in the Cdn Oxford & New Oxford American :
vt N Amer. informal clinch (a victory, deal, etc.)
hence, OK as an adjective.

Agree on bD & cD. Also liked aA, cA (*1), fD & jD (*2).

(*1) because of California's problems, cauliflower was $8 !! recently.
(*2) after 80 years, some US states & Canada are dumping those stupid laws brought about by Dupont, Hearst, et al.
I was not aware of the Mexican connection.

Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose.

I hope this doesn't get thrown out with the "new kitchen" dishwater.

As much as I like the idea of cashiers' socks, I went with cashmere instead (they just make me feel so warm and fuzzy).

I think we is fair for my team. Even if we're not on the team ourselves we say we're up by two scores.

Oh, duh. I see what the problem was. You had EYS at the end because of your till-tenders special socks. :)
