polly - if I'm on the same wavelength as you - the shell is ABA... but the fish is BE and I can't find alternative spellings for either one.

D'oh !!! I took it by removing the first letter that explained the deform. It was more cryptic than that!!

I think we are on the same wavelength now !!!
Can I just ask you if you have a word beginning with C for 20 ?
I must stop asking questions now and try more on my own - but I will be back !!
Best wishes to you and all puzzlers for the New Year. Hope it's a happy and healthy one !!! P

No my answer doesn't begin with C but that doesn't mean my answer is right! I went for a common rodent that one would hate to have it the house preceded by two letters for species. That was just a quick answer off the top of my head and, as I said, doesn't mean it's right.

How many more answers do you need?

I need eight more but I have two possibles . Three or four have to be fish. It's all speculation !!
How about you ?
I am enjoying it but am finding it very challenging- I'm sure it's more difficult from previous years !!!

Hi! Happy new year !!

I like your answer to 20 so much better than mine which was far too literal !!

The ones I have left to get are :- 52 - 67- 68 - 69 -70 -- 76 & 86
I think 3 of these should be fish !!!

Which have you got left ? I am happy to help if I can !!!

Hi Polly,

A very happy new year to you also.

I can give clues for a few of those but some I still need.

52. I got this from a list of fish and then worked the clue to fit. Unusual fish. It begins with two initials for Box Office and ends with two letters for I love. Inbetween are initials for an American state and initials for cricket club.

68. The show-jumper is a mammal(?) - people like to swim with them. Starts with a kind of derogatory term for a policeman going backwards and then the heart (middle letters) of China

76. For a long time I couldn't get beyond trying to fit Charles into this but then took the clue literally for 'first son' = S. A foreign way of expressing The or A like La, Le but not those!! Then one letter for against like in a football match one team against another team and the usual two letters to express Her Majesty/Queen. Answer is the young of certain fish. S is at the end.

86. Use the end letters of SNAke guttED and letter for Energy and letter for student and make anagram.

Hope these clues aren't too complicated.

6. I have an answer but it's not the usual plural so I'm not sure of it.

27. Has been driving me mad!! Probably starts with E

30. Is it the name of a singer - could spot one with letters from 'uses a lure'

32. I think I need a G & T with this one.

Any help much appreciated.
