Yes, it's very handy at times. I try to use it only to confirm answers I've come up with!

Hello, Pigale!
My Bradford's is the 8th edition.
It has "one" and "one-liner" under "joke".
And my falling-to-bits Chambers has "joke" under "one".
Fine weather with you!
There are gales heading our way!

Chrisg,
I would not be without Anne Bradford's Crossword Dictionary.
It contains many dialect words too.
And quite a lot of "lists"
Flowers, battles, coins, composers etc.
Have a look on Amazon.
Anne Bradford rules!

OK everyone,

Looked again and again, to no avail -
When you started mentioning editions, I looked at my book and I have the '2nd edition' - Probably why I got it for almost nothing !

Am going to look at ~Chambers now

Pigale,
It is high time you treated yourself to a new Bradford's or/and a new Chambers!
I would be wary of Chambers though. Their new edition had words missing, as Elle will tell you!

I think you are right Rusty, a new edition might SHOW (and not shoe!) many more words/expression; I am also missing out on all those lists you mentioned - I have nothing of the sort, just A to Z dictionary.

That will be my Christmas present to myself !

Pigale, maybe Chambers online would help you? I've just asked it for definitions of 'one' - the eighth one given was 'joke'.
If you're buying The Chambers Dictionary, the 12th edition is the one to get. The 13th is the latest edition, but it has a section missing. Even though you can download the section, it's a nuisance, so I'd go for the earlier edition.
