finally got back to this. still got 9d,15d,16d,13a,19a. to go.
If all the others are correct, the cross letters I have are --
9d - _ A _ A _ T _ _ 15d - A _ O _ O _ I _ 16d - I _ _ _ H _ V _ R
13a - W _ E _ A _ M _ N 19a - _ _ _ _ E _ F
Any hints appreciated

9d your T is wrong - should be i - you want a synonym for wages
16d i is wrong - should be W - defn is any (you may have 16a wrong?)
15d letters correct - Jersey refers to a type of top (4 letters)(and its a game prince Charles plays). Defn is defence
13a not fair clue for an ozzie!
try using Chambers word wizard and replace your "2 letter" word in all the possible positions. You are looking for 5,3,3
19a 2,5,4 not withstanding is the defn (your letters are fine)

You are correct !!! solving 13a not easy for me downunder :-)).
Still not happy with my choice, but applied a brand of vodka.(I think).

dizoz...13A the defn part is "Ones said to drive badly", the case of vodka part = VA

I looked up the parsing you gave me and found that the term is exclusive to the UK. ( it must have developed in the last 60 years, cos I never heard it when I lived in Scotland :-)).)
