I have the theme although I don't know how to parse 1AC. I have been going for some time now and am getting pretty much nowhere - I have 2 AC clues (21 and 28) plus most of the downs.

1 ac depends on doing the opposite of what is necessary to turn your former partner into a word for go. Happy to help with specific acrosses.

I should love some help for last one - 24ac

I am assuming h and d have to be removed from something, is that so?

the only full answer that makes sense is a country , but can't make it work...

Thanks for any help!

If i see this correctly, remove H and D from head. Land is the def (sounds like you have the answer).

It's always better to give the clue - then people without a copy of the puzzle can help.

20 D. Limp holding up detective missing end part of leg (7

It's a 7-letter synonym for 'limp', limp as in floppy.

13 A. One's said to drive badly while drinking case of vodka with husband. (9)

The answer is obviously longer, because of the theme. You need a three-word phrase for someone reputed to be a bad driver.
