Yes it is hard today- I had a few lucky wild guesses.
Not sure of the title connection yet

3d Normal clue , no extra word
3 letter synonym for trendy
2 letters syn for stolid
2 doctors + "in charge"
defn "of racecourse" (an old one)

17d RIBA is the extra word
split 7,5 1st word synonym for network, 2nd word synonym for built

I'm sure there is an anagram in there somewhere.

"balls" as in cricket ( 6 bowls/balls) + anagram of odd crew

Your tips always very helpful. In 17d you say the 2nd word is a synonym for built. Is it not built itself?

sorry farr - yes! Meant to type synonym for established!!
