Thanks Mersault and Kingore Trout - I can't believe I couldn't see that. Reminds me of when I was googling Corky Mountains for a well known mountain range...

I have a completed gird!! Thanks to you all for your help and to Saddleworthian especially for the 'keep the faith' comment. Haven't worked out the cipher yet so will try a bit longer on that but very happy indeed. Just hope they don't throw in one of the impossible numbers ones next week just as I am starting to enjoy this...

Olivercardo are you confusing the columns? I am happy with the column starting at 4 across. It's the 4th column starting with the 4th letter of 1 across which is giving me grief. I just can't make sense of it even though I am fully conversant with the theme. As for the 10th column (starting with the 6th letter of 15 across), it starts with a word of 6 letters, then there are the 5 jumbled letters. They don't rearrange to a word, so do they go with letters elsewhere? I know I am being very stupid on this and I'm so near the right answer but just can't see it!

I think I'm thinking of the same columns. Hard to be too explicit without giving away the theme, but 4th column down is a specific location related to the central column - 2 letters, 3 letters, 5 letters. The five-letter word that's jumbled in the 10th column (following an unjumbled five-letter word) is an item that 1a used.

Thanks Unclued.

MandyRob, if you still need this. To work out the cypher, look at the relationships of the misprint letters to the letters required for the definitions, wherever they occur. You should see a recurrent theme. Whenever solving Listener cyphers, I find it helps to write all the letters of the alphabet across the top of the page, and underneath to write nos 1-26

Thank you, Olivercardo. I was indeed being stupid; and I had not encountered the 5-letter word before.
