Surprised to find no thread this week. All finished or all flummoxed?

I'm struggling with the unclued words. I have Benedict and John Paul and can see the Pope connection but what else is going on?

Key from preamble is "the SAID five entries"; think sound-alike words.

I was surprised at the lack of a thread too. I have a full grid and know what the series is. As far as I can tell the word describing the series is not there in a single line in any direction. Is it perhaps distributed around the grid in an apposite pattern?

It is there in a single line and relates numerically.

Thanks for that. I thought it was "g*******c" but I can't see that anywhere though all the letters are present. Must look harder!

Ah, I've seen a word which inks the two themes but seems a bit vague to describe the series. Hum!

If you have the right word it describes each of the five words in the series when they are said. They are all ******** somethings.

Yes, I have the right word but it doesn't just describe the five entries but all the same types of entity in between them, after them and before them. As I said I can see how it connects the two themes, particularly as it forms a religious symbol in conjunction with the other word which needs to be highlighted, but "g???????c" is a more accurate description of the five entries in their usual order.
