Hello, Elle!
It is still dry here.
Some good tennis today.
Kyrgios says him and Dustin Brown are good friends.
The debate?
I did not see the First Minister speak, but Ruth Davidson came under strong attack from Kezia Dugdale and the Greens leader (I do not know him).
Kezia spoke very well, indeed. Ruth got a bit of a mauling.
Lots going on.
Expert advisory panels etc being set up, which appears to make sense.
Things appear to be happening.
Not saw any doubles matches so far.
Wonder when they start?

Hi, Rusty!
I think Scotland is at least acting on its slant on the referendum.......looking into all feasible options open to them from their point of view makes good sense.
It may not be what the rest of the UK would want, but at least positive thought and action are being taken.
I haven't spoken to the Scots contingent of the family yet.... I don't know how they feel about this.
They were in the section of the country that chose to remain a part of Great Britain, so they may well feel divided here..... they don't want to leave the UK, but that may well be the only way to choose to remain within the EU.
A lot of people may have to face contrary decisions.
I cannot find any info about the Doubles matches?
I receive a daily Newsletter from Wimbledon though, so get updates ....previews and results etc .
So tomorrow may bring further information.
One can sign up for this - I get it every year.

Hello, Elle,
Yes, I think you have to be cautious and explore options.
There will be lots of problems in the future no matter what happens regarding the EU.
There is disarray at the moment.
I am sure your Scots family will be fine.
The sun will still rise tomorrow!
In Norn Iron there are thousands applying for Irish passports.
Possibly here, too.
Had another wee read of my book.
Quite a bit in it about Sir Harry Lauder (have you heard of him?)
His only son was killed in France,
He was a captain in the Argylls.
I have recorded a programme about Loch Lomond, and will try it now to see if it is to my taste!

Hey, Rusty!
I am watching "The Somme", which I recorded earlier.
This is the first chance I have had to do so.
It is extremely well done. But very sad.
I appreciate the way the extracts from the soldier's letters and diaries are interspersed among the fighting, and the daily life and toil.
It is very similar to reading one of Lyn Macdonald's books?
Yes, I know of Sir Harry Lauder. "I Love a Lassie"!
I did know that his son was killed in France, but no background detail.
The rain has finally ceased, but the ground looks thoroughly soaked - mind you, it is probably doing the garden good, especially after our effects working in it today.
How is your programme on Loch Lomond?
Right, I'm going back now to watching more of "The Somme"...............

Hello, Elle!
Yes, the Somme programme was good.
Very well made, I thought.
I had a problem tuning in to some of the accents, though!
After John Lauder was killed his father raised the equivalent of £57 million in today's money, for injured and maimed ex-servicemen.
The official version of John's death was that he was shot dead leading his men into battle, but that may not be the full story.
I found out quite a bit more.
The Loch Lomond prog is very good. A nature/wildlife documentary.
It was made my Scottish Television but I do not know if it was networked?
Still no rain here!

Hi, Rusty!
I liked the way that the Somme programme was personalised throughout.
It was just enough to make everything seem more real......if you understand me?
And the follow, up at the end, of those individualised in the story emphasised the realism.....oh, I expect I'm putting this very badly......
I wonder why that young lad became a Communist after the war?
Wet again, here!
Hope it stops for the tennis tomorrow.

Hello, Elle!
You seem to have "enjoyed" Somme, if that is the right expression!
It engrossed me when I watched it.
Good actors, and very authentic it seemed to me.
Rain here now. Ugh!
Yes hope tennis is not affected tomorrow, although Centre Court is covered.
I have read another bit of my book.
Arnold Ridley (Private Godfrey from Dad's Army) gets a mention!
I think it is tomorrow there is a Somme programme on BBCNI, but you won't get that.
I shall record it.
If you type "The Mysterious Death of Captain John Lauder" in your search box you can find out more about Sir Harry and his son.
A mystery indeed!

Good morning, Rusty!
A lovely morning here - blue sky and warm sunshine - although we are threatened with rain later on.
I hope it will not affect Wimbledon.
There will be a bit of catching up to do today.... Jo Konta, for one, has to complete her match against Monica Puig.
Novak Dokovic and Roger Federer both play today.
Roger plays the Brit, Marcus Willis, who played so brilliantly yesterday.
I wish Marcus well, but I should like Roger to win as he is a particular favourite of mine.
I have been reading about John Lauder!
Goodness, what a lot of information..........no wonder you asked me to Google it, rather than tell me about it yourself!!
There is much to meditate upon, so many contrasting versions and opinions..........
I would be inclined to go with the unexploded shell/German sniper theory?
And the aftermath leads me to believe that John was a reasonably popular figure in his home environment / constituency.
What though is your view?
Okay.... a few chores to do, before I can settle later to watch tennis with an easy conscience!

Good morning, Elle,
I think I am with you on the German sniper theory.
We shall never know, though.
In Robert Graves book "Goodbye to All That" he tells of the time when he served with a Welsh regiment.
In the front line, two privates burst into their officer's dugout to tell him they have shot the sergeant major.
They told him it was a case of mistaken identity.
They meant to shoot their hated sergeant.
Graves says the two men were tried and shot at dawn.
But....researchers have found nothing in the regimental or division records of this happening.
A complete fiction by Graves?
The story of Captain Lauder being shot by his own men may be the same.
There was also the fiction of the Angels of Mons, and the story of the Canadian sergeant who was supposedly crucified.
All nonsense, or propaganda.
It happens, there was a war on!
I am looking forward to the tennis today.
Be a good change from politics!
Weather a bit iffy looking here.

Hi, Rusty!
I have read "Goodbye to All That", but cannot remember much now - it was a VERY long time ago!
I like Robert Graves as an author.
Have you read "I, Claudius" and "Claudius, the God"?
(I have all three books somewhere.... I must dig them out, and have a reread)
Well, it's still a nice day here! but of course raining in Wimbledon!
I watched Thomas Berdych win against Dodig - still continuing to play in the rain - which was the choice offered to the players.
But now that the match is over, the court has been covered, and I think all that will be available for some time, will be play on (the covered) Centre Court.
Radwanska v Kozlova at the moment.......
But Novak and Roger (and of course, Marcus Willis! ) later.......
So it should be a good afternoon's tennis!
