The Greek salads I had in Crete didn't have lettuce and some (especially in the hills) had the dried bread (pretty hard) at the bottom, soaking up the oil and tomato juices. They didn't have peppers in either, as I have seen suggested. The simplest were absolutely fresh feta, tomatoes, cucumber, olive oil, oregano and a few olives. I've never had really good feta in this country.

One place I stayed (I think I have been 6 times!) you could buy yoghurt in a shallow terracotta bowl, which was returned to be refilled. This, with Greek honey, is one of my all time favourite foods.

Best ever plateful there was chips cooked over an open wood fire on a piece of foil, covered with chopped tomato sauce and a small amount of feta. 1 euro!

It is so very kind of you to go to so much trouble. I am most grateful.
Now, I have followed all that to the letter, and the results are quite surprising!
Apparently , being within the range of a local transmitter, all we should need is a simple set- top aerial.
The one we have just bought to replace the broken one is quite an expensive one so we should, in theory , be in excellent " working order".
So why no ITV4?
It is a mystery!
(And we are as young as we feel!)
I remember all the hype about Maria.... wasn't she taking meldonium, supposedly for a magnesium deficiency? and didn't diabetes also come into it somewhere?
So how did the cycling go? Where and what were you watching?

No, the houmous and the lettuce were additions to the Greek salad.
But otherwise, I think I had it right?
I certainly enjoyed it!
I wouldn't know about the feta...I've only ever eaten it in this country.
I don't fancy the yoghurt and honey - I don't like honey! Too sweet!

The only other thing that I can think of, is if Freeview had a helpline you could ask where ITV4 is hiding?
They may even be able to check your system remotely?
It is not as if you lived at the back of beyond.
Maria is the healthiest looking lady I have ever saw and is in no need of heart failure medicine, I do not think.
The cycling is the Criterium du Dauphine.
It is a very important race in France, and is looked on as ideal preparation for Le Tour.
There is a cycling channel on Sky, called Bike, oddly enough.
On Saturday, there is a programme on it about one of my heroes of long ago. Raymond Poulidor, "Pou-Pou".
He always seemed to be getting beat by Jacques Anquetil but the French folk loved him, rather than Anquetil.
Hope Pigale sees this, she may remember him.

We had yoghurt and honey every day for breakfast! But not too much honey.

I shall have a sort through tomorrow when I have more time, and see what I can gleam from it.

You are right....those tablets Maria was taking are also for heart problems, altho I have a feeling it was the diabetes aspect that was stressed at the time? I could be wrong?
She was so foolish, throwing away her career like that...especially having received a warning notification.
I don't know of this cycling race that you mentioned, nor of Poulidor from your past.
I hope the programme about him proves interesting.
Good news about the tennis! Queens is being shown on BBC2 all next week!

We are well into summer now!

The drug Maria took is "principally used for cases of ischaemic heart disease" which of course Maria does not have. She took it only on the mornings of matches. The increased supply of blood to the heart improves performance. She cannot possibly have IHD and if she did, I very much doubt she could or should be playing international tennis. Maria says she did not intentionally break anti drug rules, but she didn't declare what she was doing to anyone. As you say, rusty, throwing her career away. She will be 31 when the ban is over.

Yes, the exploding mangoes book is for the book club. It is really hard going. It's about that plane crash that killed general Zia - difficult to find any of that story funny. Or, in my case, very interesting. However, I think that's part of the point of book clubs, you get to read what you would never normally dream of doing (and finishing them!)
The book club operates by getting multiple copies in a box from the library HQ. As there are lots of clubs, we had to submit a long list and get an available box. Each of us chose 6 or 8 titles but when any of them come up is a matter of luck. We also have to chose titles with audiotapes as one of our number has problems reading text.
