Hello, Elle!
It is not too cold here.
Yes I took the wibbly-wobbly route to ASDA.
Yes, in port a ship has a husband!
And, the person in charge of the cargo is a "supercargo".
I have worked out Malone's clue, but not yours?
I would be happy with cloak/hide, but not 'ide!
An ide is a fish.

Hi, Rusty!
I didn't like the fact that "cloak" was supposed to mean "hide"?
I'm getting used to the aitch- dropping , such as " 'ide "!
The other clue.....I warn you, you won't like it....I didn't either....
Old procurator's heard request for thump from airman (7,6)
Pontius Pilate = old procurator (def)
"punch us" sounds like "Pontius"
"pilot" sounds like "Pilate"
Awful, isn't it?

Hello, Elle!
Awful indeed!
The airman part would do, but not punch us for Pontius.
Never in a week of Sundays would I make that connection!
Cloak can mean hide. Why do not you like it?
I agree regarding 'ide etc.
I think Mr R should get on his bike and travel the country and realise that most of us do not speak in that way, nor should we be subjected to it. I find it irksome.
Bit cloudy here now.
I will check up on Lassie then take off for a dander.

Good afternoon, Rusty!
Now I have to confess to being extremely thick here.......!
In fact, I cannot believe how incredibly stupid I have been!
For some reason, I did not conceive of "hide" as meaning "conceal"........and thus equating to "cloak".
All I could see was a hide as a piece of leather......and thus couldn't connect it to a cloak any more than to a coat or a jacket!
There must be some trophy that I could be awarded ?
"The Densest Person of the Month"? or such like?

We too are going out for a walk now .......enjoy yours!

Elle,
You and your "senior moments"!
My walk was fine but it started raining so I cut it down a bit, and now I am home, the sun has returned and it is a lovely afternoon!
Hope you enjoyed your walk!

Elle, Rusty, anyone...

I didn't mention Pontius Pilate because I didn't have enough venom to spare. I think Punch Us = Pontius is just awful. I read on the timesforthetimes crossword blog that 'Punchus Pilot' is the 'traditional English pronunciation'. Most solvers didn't agree!

Hi, Rusty!
It wasn't very nice out - we had the same as you, in that it started to rain!
And it was very cold! Brrrh! I think Winter is back!
The postman has just delivered my books. He rammed them through the letter box instead of ringing the doorbell.......and consequently has slightly damaged one of them!
You can see by the state of the packaging ( a padded envelope rather than the more usual thick cardboard that I have come to expect from World of Books?) that the damage has been done through the posting, rather than the book being like that initially.
Both books are otherwise in very good condition, and the undamaged one even looks as though it has never been read .
So a good deal overall.......but a pity about the postman!
Has your book come?

Oh dear, Malone!
I do sympathise.
I couldn't even agree with "pilot" and "Pilate " sounding the same, let alone "punch us" and "Pontius"!

Hello, Elle.
Pity about your postie.
No sign of my books yet.
Think only one is from World of Books.
It certainly seems colder now. We had heavy hail earlier.
I do not like the BBC Scotland headline on my text service.
"Andy Murray to play Henman in Glasgow."
If is "Andy", then it should be "Tim".
Someone should get a rattle on the ear for that!
Or am I being picky?

Hi, Rusty!
No, I don't think you are bring picky.
If one tennis player is referred to by his Christian name, then it is only polite to extend the same courtesy to his opponent.
Although having said that and thinking back to the verbal commentaries at Wimbledon, for instance, the commentator there will sometimes call one of the players by his forename - especially if it is a friend of his; or a well-known player- and then refer to the other player by his surname.
But this does not make it right.......
I agree with you that the address should be the same for each player.
On a more mundane note...... we are having fish and chips (well, I'm having sausages!) from the chip shop for our dinner!
Sounds good?
