Good morning, Elle!
Still cold here. Minus 3 outside.
The cold spell continues!
My son and daughter-in-law drove to Skye.
I don't know how they crossed to Skye, but I am fairly sure it would be over the road bridge.
I don't expect to hear from them, though.
I know there are/were areas on Skye with no mobile signal (especially indoors).
I have my dental appointment later.

A Very Good morning to you, Rusty!
It is cold here, too, only 1C, but thankfully not as extreme as it is with you!
I didn't feel the chill though in my down coat!
It was lovely out in the early morning...sunny and bright.... but is becoming somewhat overcast now.
Your family going to Skye has reminded me of Lillian Beckwith!
I passed all her books on to a friend, when I had my big "sort-out", but I wish now that I had kept them.
I might have enjoyed another "read"!
What time do you go to the dentist?
I hope she is able to re-fix your crown.

I don't suppose I should have been, but I was quite surprised how big Skye is. We were sailing to Harris from Uig, on the north of Skye. After we crossed the bridge, we still had over 50 miles to drive!

Hello, Elle!
This is the coldest day of the Winter so far!
A fleecy shirt day!
Miss Peckwitt arrived by boat!
Was a rough crossing, if I remember correctly.
She told a good tale, too!
I heard from the Skye holiday folk earlier and they sent some great pics of the Cuillins.
They were starting the day with a walk to the Fairy Pools.
I have been to dentist.
Miss La Bamba's best pal is a nurse there and we had a good chat.
My crown has been cemented back in place.
Just had a call from "BT".
"My broadband will be cut off today unless blah blah blah."
Blooming pests!

Hi, Rusty!
That is good news about your crown!
You are fortunate indeed that the dentist was able to fix it back and you did not have to pay for a new one.
I am glad that you have heard from your son....... hopefully it will stay fine for them.
Speaking of BT......yes, we get those nuisance calls , too.
I usually tell the caller that I don't have a computer!
Then he slams the phone down on me!
We have had Thames Water Board totally blocking one end of our street for two months, and now have a three -way traffic light in place at the other end, whilst they dig up that corner.
And now BT Open Reach are working in the next road.
It took almost ten minutes for us to drive out of the street this morning......
We were fourth in line waiting for the traffic light to change.......and the driver in front was trying to execute a five point turn to go back the way he had come!
It is getting ridiculous!

Hello, Elle!
My dentist said my tooth looked clean and healthy and he would refix the crown.
Just took several minutes.
It is recorded messages I get from "BT", now.
From different numbers each time.
I've blocked them and told the real BT.
Don't think there is anything else I can do?
Problem is, some old folk look upon their 'phone as a lifeline to the outer world and may go along with the scammers' instructions, with awful results.
You still have the Thames Water lads?
That's a while they have been there!

Hi, Rusty!
It has been colder out this afternoon than early morning , as the sun disappeared.
I am warming up indoors now ...and am not going out again!!
Sometimes we, too, have recorded messages from BT......but often it is a "live" person on the other end of the phone , usually speaking with a foreign accent.
In both cases, I block the numbers.
You are right to be concerned that some elderly person might be duped into following the caller's instructions.
I think folk panic, as you say, at the thought that their phone, or internet connection, might be cut off.
Yes, Thames Water is becoming a fixture in our street!
And it only a short, narrowish , tree-lined residential street, not a major road, so there is little room for all the necessary manoeuvring.
A real pain!

Good evening, Elle!
Quite cold here, too.
I block the numbers, too, but they seem to an infinite amount of numbers to use.
The older folk are my concern.
These calls are worrying for them.
And God forbid they follow instructions they are given in the 'phone calls and messages!

Good evening, Rusty!
I have never heard a 'fake' message supposedly from BT to the end.
I always hang up after the first few words ....so I do not know what instructions are given?
Does the caller ask for bank details and such?
Yes, it is a distressing situation for the vulnerable.
I wonder what, if anything, can be done to avoid possible consequences?
How did you find today's crossword?
I could not do two of the clues.......5a and 15a.....but otherwise I think I coped reasonably well.
"Patronymic" was a new word for me, and I did not know that "Tom and Jerry" is an alcoholic drink, apart from being a cartoon that I like!
I learn something new every day...which is just as it should be!
