Ah, thank you, Cerasus!
Yes, that is what I suspected might happen...….it is a terrible business.
And I did not know that it was possible to "freeze" a computer from afar- as the article said - and then blackmail the owner to have it unlocked?
Can this indeed be done?
Or is this somehow more scamming?

I really don't know if the scammers can freeze PCs. I use an instant blocker on numbers I do not recognise on the phone screen ID so the call is never answered here and I never speak to anyone.

Hello, Elle!
I hear the caller asking you to press "1" to speak to someone to prevent your broadband being disconnected.
I hang up then.
If you do press "1" they may want details, or want to take over your computer.
So, it could be disastrous of you are not fly to them.
"Tom and Jerry" was unknown to me.
Now 5a, is "w inn ow", sort out.
15a is "ro M pers", garment.
The folk on Skye are having a grand time.
Sent me some super pics.
White-tailed eagles, sunrise on the mountains, etc.
I'm wishing I was there!

Hi, Rusty!
Yes, that is as far as I ever got with the spam BT calls.
Best always to ignore anything even remotely suspicious!
Did you read the link that Cerasus put up?
Thank you for the answers, and the parsing, for those two clues.
I have never heard the word "winnow", nor did I know that an American cowboy is called a "roper"!
More new words!
Good that you have heard again from your son...... the photos sound terrific!
Have you ever been to Skye?

Hello, Elle!
Yes, I read Cerasus' link.
Not everyone would know not to press "1", though.
I am surprised you do not know "winnow".
I did not know "roper" but it looked good with the crossing letters.
Collins has it to do with a "lasso-user"!
The photos from Skye are super.
My daughter-in-law loves it there.
It is her first time there.
I've an idea they will come home tomorrow.
I am pretty sure she starts work on Thursday.
Yes, I know Skye.
I have a very good pal who comes from there.

Good morning, Rusty!
A pleasant walk this morning, with sunshine, and a temperature of 2C.
I was surprised to find out how big the Isle of Skye is, when I looked it up.
It is about three times the size of the IoM and more than four times the IoW...both of which I have visited.
Mis Peckwitt certainly liked it!
I have a few jobs to do today.......a prescription request to drop off at the doctor's surgery, and some shopping to do down in the High Street.
And I shall take out the dog again later......
First though.... a coffee and (an attempt at) the crossword !

Good morning, Elle!
No frost today!
Cloud overhead.
Yes, Skye is a fair size.
Miss Peckwitt is in good company as regards folk liking Skye!
My son and daughter-in-law have just texted from Eilean Donan.
They are on their way home.

I had a new nuisance call today!
It was a very bad line with a message to do with Amazon Prime, which I could not make out.
Was from a Glasgow area code, if that means anything, and I suspect it doesn't.

Here are some words for your wee book !
