Nelson, so far I only have one 13 letter answer and that's in the L column. A lot of cold solving here.

Marca, one of mine is also in the L column. I have solved about half the clues but hard going.

That suggests the other 13 letter answer isn't in the L column. I, too, have only solved about half the clues, but will have another look today, but I think many more will need to be cracked before any grid filling starts. Much head scratching!

I'm on the brink of giving up on this one. I have two 13-letter answers - the other one is from the C set. Given there is 90-degree symmetry I think any more such answers are unlikely. They will have to form a large + in the middle and the L one will have to be horizontal as I have other answers in the L set that cannot come off it.

Of course I could be wrong. Are we to assume that each column is devoted exclusively to each set?

Got it, must be "cased". Any across clue in a group starts in that particular column.

Thanks for that hint Very helpful to know where to look for the other 13 letter answer. I now, I think, have columns LMG and C sorted, so still a long way to go. I'd really appreciate a help with a couple ... Light spinning round before Greek god ... And ...henchmen say made mean moves leading to end of hostage. There are many more unsolved, but those two are irking me.
